Characteristics of Anemia in the Elderly: Hospital-Based Study in West Java

Geriatric anemia can cause many problems and is a major health condition worldwide in Indonesia. It important to know the characteristics prevalence of among geriatrics Indonesia, especially West Java. By using simple hematology parameters detect geriatrics, then giving adequate treatment, morbidity, mortality due may decrease geriatrics. This study aimed identify type anemia, etiology, age, gender, elderly patients with was cross-sectional study. Patients above 59 years old attending geriatric clinic Hasan Sadikin General Hospital community included this be evaluated for (normocytic, microcytic, macrocytic) based on MCV MCHC, age group (<=65 > 65 year old), gender. Among 247 patients, found 33 (13.64%) mostly females. Mostly represented as normochromic normocytic (78.8%) microcytic hypochromic (21.2%), respectively.
